This is a HDR composite image of a sunset taken from the far end of Mint Glacier in the late evening.  The trail starts near Hatcher’s Pass around Palmer and the hike was about 9.5 miles across pretty rough paths.  Hiking in itself is worth it and it is an even greater reward when great photos can be made at the same time.

Spied this sea otter floating as we were driving our boat around a fair ways past Whittier.  Only upon inspecting the photos did I see the adorable baby the mother was cradling.  It looks like she’s holding a teddy bear!

The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis technically) are an amazingly beautiful natural phenomenon that Fairbanks gets more than its share of.  This was taken North of town on the Steese Highway.  The green glow was pretty but I became very excited when I saw lone car driving back to town and was able to frame it up in the shot.

This is a tree that was covered in ice due to unusual weather outside of Fairbanks.  The light was hitting it and causing all the ice to glow in a surreal manner.  It caught my eye as I was driving to the location I had planned to take photos.  Further proof that one must always pay attention to what is going on, or else you might miss something very cool.

This is one of the hiking shortcuts around UAF in Fairbanks that people use to get to classes a bit faster.  It snowed nearly 18 inches in 24 hours so finding the trail and beating a new path took considerable doing.  Luckily when it comes to taking shortcuts, college students will spend any amount of energy.

This is a bit abstract but I thought it was cool enough to justify a photo.  It is the rear of a jet engine on a very old scrapped aircraft in a plane boneyard.  Sadly I do not know what type it is but the engine was mounted above the wings which is highly unusual and it appears that the people who flew it might have been too.  It is around the Fairbanks airport in case you were wondering.

This is from the total lunar eclipse several months back.  The lighting and color of the moon were simply amazing, that and the perfectly clear sky didn’t hurt either.

This photo is from Denali National Park and shows off some of the beauty of the location.  No one photo could ever do it justice, nor could me spending an entire season there.

Here is a cow moose (Ulces ulces) enjoying some greens in Soldotna, which is on the Kenai Peninsula.  The flag in the truck mirror was a complete accident but makes the shot so much better.  Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.  Happy 4th of July America!

This was taken in North Pole, which is a bit South of Fairbanks for some reason.  In case you can’t tell it is an HDR image, meaning three photos taken at different exposures were merged to create this one.  I should get up earlier so that I have sunrise photo’s too.
